Introduction:

Have you ever envisioned immersing yourself in a tangible slice of history? Sponsored by the University of Chicago Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) with generous support from a Title VI National Resource Center Grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and academically supported by the University of Chicago Center for the Art of East Asia (CAEA), the First Yuan Asian Art Festival is proud to present a week of Asian contemporary theater and performance art to the local community of Chicago from Feb. 03 to Feb. 12, 2024.

We are dedicated to bringing experimental theater and performance art into children’s education at the Nettelhorst School, a Chicago fine and performance arts magnet cluster school at the heart of the vibrant art community of East Lakeview. In the final performance on February 12th, children and featured artists will become a part of our ultimate theater performance to bring the story of the destroyed relief of the Empress Procession at the Longmen Binyang Cave to life. Partake in this cultural odyssey, an opportunity to witness the convergence of history, art, technology, and education.
