Event Advancing Digital Exhibition of Cultural Heritage

Presented by the Center for the Art of East Asia, and hosted at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures on May 5-6, the Advancing Digital Exhibition of Cultural Heritage Symposium centered around exploring innovative ways to exhibit and preserve cultural heritage through digital platforms.

The symposium featured 14 presentations by 21 speakers representing museums, cultural institutions, and universities from China, Greece, Italy, Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United States. Topics covered a wide spectrum of emerging technologies being used to tell richer stories about cultural heritage. Each panel included a Q&A session moderated by a guest curator. The event closed with a Roundtable Discussion led by our own Professor Wu Hung in conversation with CAEA staff and guests from the Field Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Penn Museum.

Most of the talks and discussions are now available on the Center’s Youtube page. For a complete list of speakers and panels, visit the event page.

Here are a few comments shared by some of our guests:

“Thank you so much for including me in this wonderful gathering. I have learned so much from each presenter. The field is developing fast. So glad I’m exposed to these projects! Feeling really grateful!”

- Abby Chen, Head of Contemporary Art & Senior Associate Curator, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco

“The [CAEA] team was able to craft not only a well-managed symposium, but one that brought together some wonderful people who will certainly collaborate in the future.”

- Ken Harper, Associate Professor & Director, Newhouse Center for Global Engagement, Syracuse University

Special thanks to the Cyrus Tang Foundation for making this event possible, and to Dannie Huang and Ellen Larson for their additional support in handling countless last-minute details.
